Executive Director

Executive Director (ED) responsible for all aspects of the Foundation for Women’s Wellness (FWW). This fully remote, self-directed leadership role offers full flexibility to set your own work schedule with minimal oversight. Working alongside a small volunteer board (including founders) you’ll have initial mentorship from the current founding ED and the independence to bring new ideas to fundraising, community outreach, and organizational development. https://thefww.org

FWW is a small, nonprofit 501c3 public charity dedicated to advancing women’s health thru research and education. To that end, FWW raises support for research and fellowship awards in a range of women’s health disciplines including female-related cancers, cardiovascular disease, hormone-related conditions and stage-of-life health issues, topics disproportionately affecting women, and elucidation of sex differences.

FWW is comprised of a small, volunteer Board of Directors and an ED as the sole employee (with support from outside consultants/assistants for administrative, technological, & financial tasks).

Preferred skills and traits include:

  • Strategic thinker and doer; comfortable in an autonomous leadership role; able to make recommendations and collaborate with small volunteer Board and manage multiple organizational functions (as outlined below) while bringing new ideas
  • Ability to work fully independently (and on your own schedule)
  • Must have fundraising and donor relations knowledge/experience
  • Experience in the nonprofit sector (health-related preferred but not required)
  • Experience, knowledge, &/or interest in medical research and women’s health
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and maturity
  • Organized and self-directed

RESPONSIBILITIES

Programmatic:

  • Oversee two awards programs (research & fellowship). This includes overseeing request for proposals (RFP) process and working with medical advisory board on review and selection process annually.
  • Communicate with applicants & respond to inquiries
  • Initiate website updates re. awards process/updates
  • Manage (and possibly participate in) review process
  • Interview fellowship award finalists; verify letters of recommendation
  • Issue award checks/forms
  • Write summaries of awardees (for website, Board, & large donors of named awards)

Fiscal:
Capable of basic financial management/oversight including:

  • Basic budget administration
  • Oversee payments to consultants, subscriptions, and awardees
  • Provide material to accountant for balance sheets/bookkeeping & annual taxes
  • Communicate with accountant ensuring compliance and accuracy of tax filings
  • Hire service providers when needed (administrative assistance, website developer/manager/graphic designer, accountant, auditor, etc.)

Governance:

  • Plan and lead annual Board meeting (includes setting agenda, presenting financials, programmatic & fundraising updates, budget)
  • Follow up on tasks arising from Board mtgs & communicate with individual Board members as needed
  • Ensure compliance with 501c3 regulations; recommend updates as needed

Fundraising and Outreach:

  • Lead and grow fundraising efforts such as expanding online presence, implement in person or online women’s health educational events, annual fundraising letter
  • Communicate with and maintain relationships with large donors
  • Administration of donations (acknowledgement letters, maintain donor spreadsheet & mailing list)
  • Ensure website functionality for collecting donations (thru PayPal, checks, occasional phone credit card payments, etc)

Communication:

  • Create & update website content as needed
  • Speak on behalf of FWW to individuals, groups & public inquiries (including at in person and/or online fundraising events)
  • Write communications to donors/potential donors & related

SALARY & BENEFITS

Location: Fully remote, home office necessary. Location flexible (Board members in NYC area)
Benefits: Full flexibility & self-determined work schedule; generous paid leave/vacation time
Hours: approximately 20-30 hours/week; varies throughout the year (we are focused on results rather than a rigid time adherence)
Salary: Beginning at $70,000 based on experience
